Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device
It has been 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story movie debuted, launching the animation giant as a leading film company and introducing viewers to iconic characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a glimpse into the storyline but keeping viewers wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys
The preview shows the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a latest toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer avoids is why the sheriff is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.
Certainly, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with him. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The final act Woody did before setting off for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the insignia pinned to her shirt.
It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
