A revitalized the Russian player claimed his initial trophy for over two years with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The athlete, a former number one, has endured a challenging season, achieving just one win at the big events and undergoing a setback at the US Open.

The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in specific - caused him falling of the top ten and finally splitting with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.

Presently training with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has gradually progressed in the last few weeks - culminating in a tightly fought competitive victory over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This represents the player's maiden title following the Rome competition and maiden on a hardcourt since that period of 2023.

Victory also means he has secured twenty-one championships at twenty-one different tournaments.

"It's the first time I have attended a competition with my children together, so to secure a championship is especially meaningful," stated world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had failed in his last six championship matches, comprising in that event previously this season.

Medvedev's retrieving play style and frequent outbursts on court had led some to doubt if his skill to compete at the top level was over.

But the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to come to the net and compete positively, backed up by an enhanced serving game.

Medvedev came back from a break down in the first set against the challenging Moutet, winning four of the concluding five games to go ahead.

The pair exchanged break points in the middle set before Moutet, bidding for his initial tour victory, seized the initiative to force a decider.

The opponent rescued four initial chances in a tight third set before the Russian broke to fifteen to close out the victory.

Suitably, the winner secured the win with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet unable to handle a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
