A Greater Manchester club has an amateur vets team with nine former Premier League players in their current squad.

222 Top Division Scores, 325 Global Appearances

Wythenshawe Veterans Over-35s are based in south Manchester and compete in the Cheshire Veterans League Top Tier.

Their squad list this season includes nine ex- Premier League players, with a collective nearly 1,800 top-flight matches.

The elite roster also boasts over 220 top division goals and over 320 global caps.

They feature one forward, who scored thirty-seven scores in 117 games for Newcastle United after signing for them for £9m from German league club SC Freiburg in 2012.

Cisse made his debut for the team in their most recent home-field game versus reigning title holders Collegiate Old Boys and netted every one of the six scores in a 6-2 victory - featuring a half-hour first-half hat-trick.

The roster for this campaign also features ex- pros such as English and Liverpool striker Emile Heskey, Hull and Burnley FC winger George Boyd, Toffees forward Oumar Niasse, Wigan full-back Maynor Figueroa, Manchester City pair Stephen Ireland and Nedum Onuoha and Premier League title winners Joleon Lescott and Danny Drinkwater.

Stephen Ireland started playing for the side during preseason this summer through good friend and present Wythenshawe teammate Blake Norton, and the ex- Irish midfielder then invited other former professionals, who all compete in a weekly nine-a-side game, to participate.

Ex- Senegal forward Niasse, who netted 12 goals in 65 top-flight games for Everton and still attends their matches at Goodison Park, also made his debut against Collegiate OB - who are based in the city and use an Everton warm-up gear as their strip.

"A mate Stephen Ireland told me 'join and play, it's enjoyable'," commented the striker.

"After that he told me we were playing a team from the city and the shock I had when I saw them sporting Blue kits - I thought this is wrong for me!

"When you still enjoy the game and you know you can still play, anywhere you can kick a ball, what are you going to do?

"The fans who come and watch are happy and to give someone's moment if they watch us competing there and to ask us queries - it's really about the pleasure of us having somewhere we can enjoy football, with organisation of course."

Such is the strength in depth at the club, he made his first game at full-back.

"It's a bit different but then, I enjoy sprinting and just go inside - I'm not defending that much," he added.

"I tell my centre-back 'I'm not hanging back' and that I'm just going to continue running.

"That movement is what I'm after. It's enjoyable."

Dreamlike' Feeling

Along with Cisse's 6 goals on his first game, Ireland has netted 8 in three games for the side, while Boyd scored five on his first match and Lescott, a centre-half by trade, notched a triple in one game as a striker.

Wythenshawe are leading of the Top Division with 3 wins from three and a GD of plus nineteen.

One opponent, 38, who plays on the flank for the opposition, faced ex- Wigan defender Figueroa on Sunday - and had to tell his young boy who Emile Heskey was.

"The news was spreading like a rumor they had all these ex-Premier League players," remarked the player.

"I felt I was a bit awestruck facing Figueroa to be honest.

"Also Heskey came on and he's has 60-odd England appearances.

"Our side competed well for a solid twenty mins but then we had a player dismissed and it was tough.

"Our group really have not ceased chatting about it - I was calling my mother and sibling on the way home.

"They were all really nice, shaking our hands after the game - it was like playing a bunch of regular guys.

"Now we are eager for the second match."
